With panoramic views of farmland and distant verdant hills, this family home in the sunny Hawkes Bay was built in 1973 by renowned New Zealand architect, John Scott.
As the childhood home of the client the house carries special meaning to this busy family, so when it came the time to add some new touches, Nikki McNamara of Stylemaker was called upon to turn their vision into reality.
Aside from a recent new kitchen, most of the building is original with many spaces that the homeowners wanted to refresh to create more cohesion and consistency.
Nikki’s goal was to be respectful of the home’s precious original story, celebrate its architectural merits, and highlight its country setting.
A Saint Heliers home located in the beachy Eastern Bays of Auckland was carefully modernised by the owner and interior designer Jackie Jones, to create a more functional ‘heart of the home’ for her large family of seven.
Jackie’s brief was to design a light, open space in the kitchen, dining and family rooms with good flow and functionality while creating a social atmosphere in the kitchen – one where you can sit and dine in comfort.
Mokum's La Palma botanical print wallpaper with pops of pinks and teals was used as inspiration for the concept. “The wallpaper is like an extension of the tropical and vertical garden outside, bringing the garden in” says Jackie.
The popular Mokum La Palma wallpaper is a real standout feature in the family living area while Mokum Eternal and Infinite fabrics provide comfort and texture for the cushions, working in harmony with the overall design scheme.
The rest of the space is kept light and fresh. Soft white kitchen cabinetry and walls are complemented by duck egg blue accents for the coffee nook tiles and accessories on the kitchen island and scullery.
Curtains and blinds in fabric Emperor by Mokum enhance the newly created spaces beautifully with its silver hue. Emperor is a reversible curtain fabric with a lovely drape and comes in a very versatile 300cm wide with.
“I absolutely love all of the Mokum collection. They are usually my first port of call when sourcing for a new project. Lovely fabrics, great colour palettes, durable options and wide width drapery are just some of the reasons I use this fabric” Jackie says.
