A Prestigious Apartment at The Pines

A homeowner’s beautiful glassware collection accumulated from their extensive travels were pivotal in developing the aesthetic of a Mt Eden apartment at The Pines in Auckland, New Zealand.

Magnificent crystal which beautifully reflects the light, some of which have gold and bronze accents and handmade textural elements, formed a colour palette throughout the home’s interior scheme, bought to fruition by mother and daughter duo Schwarz Design.

The homeowner’s (a pilot), richly travelled life and appreciation for a luxurious hotel aesthetic was key to the home where each room in the apartment illustrates a cohesive story evocative of a modern, urban New York space.

While a refined look and feel was paramount to the client, functionality was also a key priority with regards to lighting, space and storage.

The apartment was purchased unrenovated with spectacular views of both the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours nestled into the side of Mount Eden.  The brief was to create a simple and elegant space where, between their travels the owners could enjoy entertaining friends and showing off their display of lifetime collections.

The result of this thoughtful design was a central open plan living space with multiple settings for entertaining and living, centred around the breath-taking views, with a second casual living room for relaxed evenings watching movies.

Classic fabric selections were important to complement the original character of the apartment. Fabric that reflects the mood of the individual spaces where rich warm tones and antique casual texture complement the outside vista

In the open plan living space we see a soft grey velvet hue on the custom sofa which reflects the changing colours of the sky in Zinc Orbit Spacedust complemented with large cushions in Zinc Orbit Putty, a matching but darker viscose velvet with antique gold tones. Zinc Orbit - a viscose/cotton mix offering  a rich, silk-like look and feel. The viscose providing a shimmering and opulent effect in a velvet pile cloth.

The casual living space features another custom sofa upholstered in Mokum Vintage Antique fabric ideal for regular furniture use with its heavy duty rating. The sofa is complimented with Zinc Orbit Mocha. This naturally derived combination adds softness and a capacity to lustre bringing a complimentary surface to the hero elements within the space.

The Master bedroom is a luxurious and tranquil space enveloped with views of greenery from Mount Eden and onwards toward the sea. The off-white textured velvet on the arm chairs in Mokum Bespoke is constructed with a viscose pile creating a lustrous, plush finish and antiqued surface that reflects the brushed textured stone in the master ensuite and complements the curtains and bedding pallet also in Mokum Bespoke – a multi-use residential fabric.

“Adding texture rather than colour opens your appreciation to the scenery outside” says Juliette.

The resulting interior is one that truly reflects the prestige of this iconic apartment tower in Auckland.
