A timeless family home
“We wanted to create a warm, rich vibe, so the fabrics we selected are all highly textured, layering earthy tones with hits of bush-inspired greens”
A busy family with three teenagers, they sought the help of Kirsten Ford Design to create a warm and inviting feel - a contemporary take on timeless, lasting design.
Kirsten and her team developed an overall vision and style direction for the sprawling home to ensure continuity of the modern and timeless aesthetic. Finishes, furniture and furnishings were sourced to create a warm, modern aesthetic, with timeless appeal. Included in the design was custom furniture, using locally-crafted pieces wherever possible.
The linen-look window treatments featured throughout the home are Mokum Shoji. They work to soften the strong architectural lines of the home - and filter the sunshine streaming in the generous windows. Window seats in Mokum Tanami are functional with a chunky natural aesthetic and superior performance attributes.
The living space includes swivel chairs in a wool blend upholstery by James Dunlop MacKenzie and a bespoke upholstered sofa in Mokum Coco that offers a plush chenille look.
In the dining area, chairs and bar stools are covered in James Dunlop Rhodes, a heavy duty upholstery in 50% polyester that provides a robust solution for high traffic areas.
The bedrooms take cues from the individual personalities of each family member. From soft and feminine to a hunting lodge feel. The master bedroom features a custom velvet headboard in Mokum Bespoke for a luxurious feel.
The palette is inspired by the amazing views of native greenery which surround this home. Fern greens, punga trunks, rusty lichens and rough bark translate to warmly textured timbered floors, rich greens, black accents, all layered against crisp whites.
“We wanted to create a warm, rich vibe, so the fabrics we selected are all highly textured, layering earthy tones with hits of bush-inspired greens” says Kirsten.
The end result is a lasting design, a home with its own unique personality with loads of warmth, charm and functional style. The spaces are beautiful and livable for all the family to enjoy.
